Review
Manufactured by Dominican pillar Tabadom as Avo's top-of-the-line show-case brand. This means it has six different tobaccos, including the "specially fermented, matured Piloto Cubano from the Dominican Republic" (according to the company website); its binder is Olor (Havana seed, from the Villa Gonzalez region of the DR) and it is finally wrapped in the much-hyped Connecticut Shade. Avo cigars were first distributed by Davidoff, so I guess that's the market he's going for.
The XO comes in various musically-named styles and sizes (the long corona Preludo, the robusto Intermezzo, and the churchill Maestoso; "daytime" Presto and Allegro, "nighttime" Serenata and Notturno), inspired perhaps by creator Avo Uvezian's original calling as a Julliard-trained jazz composer.
All very well, but you can't quite smoke a story. Personally speaking, I have found Avo XOs to be very smooth, well-made medium-bodied cigars – just not quite extraordinary enough to justify their "XO" appellation and price.
