Review
The Ashton Estate Sun Grown, or ESG, as it is most affectionately called, is a created of Robert Levin and Carlos Fuente Jr. Ashton plans to release a unique size of the ESG every year until 2010, which the 20 Year Salute as its very first in 2005. The 21 Year Salute followed in 2006, which is a smaller version of its predecessor (6.75 x 49). This particular cigar uses a wrapper that came from the farm of Chateau de la Fuente in Dominican Republic. Along with its binder and filler, the wrapper hails from the Domincan Republic.
The construction and flavor are two of the most endearing characteristics of the ESG. Perhaps one of the most medium-full smokes that did not come from Cuba, the ESG is rich in taste and aroma, while the wrapper helps in making the smoke a complex yet enjoyable experience with touches of spices, cedar, and a hint of chocolate. The only downside with this cigar is the price. However, if you do have the cash to spend, then the ESG is one of the better choices around.

10:48 (EST)Rum. Nothing goes better with this glorious cigar. Appleton Estates Private Reserve(on the rocks) The hint of spice blends well. Be aware of the burn. Watch closely. Great taste. Special occasions on the patio.

09:45 (EST)Simply, the best. If you have not smoked an Ashton make sure it is the next cigar you smoke. Worth every penny.

09:30 (EST)One of my best ever. Period. As a fan of Ashton's VSG I didn't think they could top it, but they have. This uses the same wrappers [Colorado Maduro Cuban seed] used for Fuente's Opus X, but sun-grown rather than shade-grown. Only 50,000 made in 2006, with more to come only in 2010. Top dollar, especially now, but worth every hard-earned cent.

12:57 (EST)There is a price for greatness, and I will have to state this cigar as a perfect example. From its dark, smooth wrapper to its intimidating band, the Sun-Grown ESG strikes an impressive presence that's truly deserving of its tag. Excellent in probably all aspects, with an exceptional mix of flavors including rich leather and dark cherry. I would make this my only celebration cigar, and nothing else

12:00 (EST)I like to think of this one as the big hidden surprise. I have met very few people who have smoked this bone...but when they do,they are hooked... not for the heavy maduro type of bone lover...this one reminds me more of a quiet break on a pacific coast with no interruptions from grommets or old dudes. simpley simple...and very good.

10:40 (EST)The medium-full bodied smoke of the Ashton Estate Sun Grown is surprisingly smooth despite the complex flavors of cocoa and fruits that conceive an earthy aroma. If that's not enough complexity for you, the cigar receives a bit more from the Dominican Republic wrapper, with a tinge of cedar and spices mixed in during the burn. As with every Ashton ESG, the construction is elegant while the burn and draw are spot-on. Despite its exorbitant value, the Ashton Estate Sun Grownmay very well be worth the asking price.

10:08 (EST)The Ashton Estate Sun Grown cigar happens to be a much-hyped stick, but it somewhat delivers the promise of producing a mild cigar with an uncomplicated taste and great construction. Not the weak kind of mild as hints of cocoa and cherry produce a creamy and smooth flavor. The real gripe with the cigar is its uneven burn, which only seems to correct itself past midway of the smoke. This can be attributed to the oiliness of the wrapper, where it can be fixed by keeping the Ashton in the humidor for a couple of weeks.
