Review

As a celebration of its 45th birthday, Camacho introduces its 1962 line, dubbed by many as their finest creation. Originally known as a cigar brand that produces some of the best full-bodied smokes, the Camacho takes a medium-bodied approach with the 1962. The cigar line only commemorates the move from Cuba to the Honduras. However, the question is begged to be asked: is the cigar really as good as advertised?

First, we'll start with the aesthetics, in which the Honduran tobaccos are elegantly rolled using a Criollo wrapper that has a dark appearance and lovely aroma. The medium-bodied smoke that is dominated by its smooth profile of toasted nuts and earth, with a touch of spice makes a flavorful blend. At times, the stogie reaches for usual full-bodied taste that Camacho usually delivers, making for some unique moments during the smoke, which makes the cigar an appealing choice for people smoking full-bodied stubs wanting to try out cigars with medium strength. Hence, the 1962 packs in enough punch in the medium range that would definitely appeal to full-bodied smokers.

A double torpedo with aged filler (Cuban-seed but grown in Honduras), wrapped in third-priming Cuban-seed Criollo. Get the Pre-Embargo (6” x 48) size if you can: it’s stronger, much better -– and much harder to find. But even the regular Camacho 1962 is worth seeking out: starting creamy and finishing spicy, complex yet smooth, it’s a wonderful all-day smoke.

Camacho lays its imprint on the Perfecto with a construction and a firm draw that will leave no problem during the smoke. However, there are inconsistencies with regard to the smoke, which certainly did not possess the trademark Camacho flavor. The toast and spices were welcome, but the harsh and burnt tones leave a lot to be desired. During the course of the smoke, there is evident flaking of the wrapper in the middle of the experience, but by no means completely undermine the cigar. It may be best to try the Perfecto yourself.

I wouldn't say that this would go on my list of favorites but there are some positive things to say. Like for instance, it looks enticing. Although you can't really count on looks too much. I don't appreciate the burnt taste but the flavor more than makes up for it. All in all, I could try some more if the price is right.

The Perfecto is quite rough around the edges with regard to appearance and construction. However, the even burn and medium to full notes of cocoa and wood make up for its aesthetic shortcoming. The smoke reaches a burnt taste along the way, which is quite a bummer. Despite the stogie being far from perfect, it's quite a nice short smoke for a long day.
