Review
In Spanish, El Rey del Mundo means “King of the World”—a name fitting for what was once the world’s most prestigious cigar brand, with a price tag also deserving of the title. Legend has it that this renowned cigar was created in 1848 by the famous Sancho Panza and German businessman Emilio Ohmstedt. The brand was later developed by Antonio Allones, who is credited for its global popularity, and was finally owned by Candido Vega Diaz of the Diaz Hermanos y Cia. The Diaz company was then named the Rey del Mundo Cigar Co., maker of other internationally-known cigar brands. Sadly, the signature mildness of the El Rey del Mundo cigar soon lost its status with the shift of world taste toward stronger-tasting cigars—though still prized to this very day and remains popular among cigar aficionados.
While the El Rey del Mundo established its name as a Cuban cigar, Americans are more familiar with the El Rey del Mundo Olvidados—a special blend by Estelo Padron in Cofradia, Honduras. Its distinct Dominican fillers create a superb blend with an impressive Honduran mix, all in a Maduro wrapper aged and constructed only for the most deserving of cigar smokers.

04:40 (EST)At first, I was hesitant to try this one because I was done with great-looking cigars that had nothing in it. But I eventually gave in, and gave this a chance. It was actually the kind that seemed to have nothing at first, then gave its all towards the end—lots of strong spice and dark chocolate. This guy was good—not excellent, but good—and didn't let me down

11:01 (EST)The El Rey Del Mundo is a medium-bodied smoke with a great balance of spice and delicious earth flavors that produced a thick smoke. There is a bold complexity in its taste, which is even intensified by the great burn. However, the cigar had a tendency to lose some of its flavor at the halfway mark, but it regained its spunk with a dry peppery taste. Although there are a lot of cigars from the same line better, it doesn't take away the fact that it is a quality cigar, for what it's worth.

10:42 (EST)The dark and oily wrapper of the Robustos hints of the elegance contained within. The sturdy construction, firm draw, and the absence of burn issues get the cigar off to a good start. The first third of smoke is nothing special, but the nutty and woody flavors start to impose itself on the second third. This enjoyable smoke maintains its excellence up to the very end, capping off with hints of spices underneath a bitter cocoa taste.
