Ultra-premium explosively strong cigars named after the famously fierce Nepalese warriors who fought first against, then with, the British in colonial India. (break) Today, the Gurkha line is made in the Dominican Republic by Kaizad Hansotia. It is a boutique brand, purposely limited in supply and focused on the high-end smoker. (Make that very high end: certain Gurkhas routinely sell for hundreds of dollars per stick.) The line comes in a variety of sizes: from natural to maduro, some infused and others not. The tobacco used depends on the line: many use Dominican tobacco from the Cibao Valley, but in some cases Nicaraguan binders and fillers are also used. Wrappers can be Connecticut or Dominican Broadleaf, Brazilian, Cameroon, Nicaraguan or Indonesian. Whichever Gurkha variant you choose to try, you can expect an impeccably constructed cigar, and a distinct, uniquely pleasurable experience. |
