Review
Top of the line from one the US’ top-selling brands, this gets its name from the color of its wrapper leaves, which are much hyped for their scarcity and limited supply. "Capa Especial" leaves are first- and second-priming Connecticut Shade -- thin, supple and sweet because they’re less exposed to the sun. The filler is 1998 vintage Mexican and Dominican (Piloto Cubano) tobacco, and the binder Mexican San Andrean, also first and second primings.
So what kind of cigar comes out of all this? A stogie version of those low-calorie gourmet desserts: impeccably made but tasting strangely like air. Really, this is one light-flavored cigar. It would be good for novice or occasional smokers: they can appreciate the status of a premium cigar and the importance of origin, without being put off by a pronounced taste. Very easy to like, a most undemanding cigar. Maybe that’s why it sells so well.

01:07 (EST)Grab your Coors light and blow smoke rings. This cigar is as basic as they come. Light and airy. Not a favorite unless you are just learnign about cigars.

02:07 (EST)The Macanudo Gold Label Duke of York makes a good first impression with its great construction and adequate qualities of its draw and burn. However, the mild flavors of the cigar sadly borders on being indiscernible. Actually, the creamy smoke has a pronounced nutty flavor until it reaches the sweet notes at the end, excellent for those who have yet to be introduced to smoking. Although the Duke of York is not the best of the bunch and nor is it light on the wallet, it is mild enough for a first try.

10:42 (EST)True to its royal name and stance, this cigar will make you feel noble and important. From construction to scent to burn and draw, the Macanudo Gold Label keeps its elegance and superior quality. I indulged in the smooth leather and earth flavors, and the quiet intensity that it gave. Top-notch and superb—and I say that with the best accent I can muster.

12:48 (EST)Smoking the Macanudo Gold Label feels like driving with the handbrake on. It started out mild—which is great, because I like them that way—then it slowly graduated into...the same. Yeah, there were some hints of grass and spice, but they remained just that—hints. Seems like this guy doesn't know exactly what it wants to be. What a pity, a bad cigar from such a great brand.

12:29 (EST)The Macanudo Gold Label Duke of York proves that appearances can deceive. The fairly tight construction coupled with its flawless wrapper make the smoke a winner in the aesthetics department. However, comparing the actual taste of the cigar to its construction is pretty disappointing. The signature flavor of the cigar dashed with a bit of sweetness makes the smoke not only straightforward, but also mild bordering on bland. Despite its adequate burn and draw, the Duke of York fails to reach the benchmark standards of cigars when it comes to where it matters
