Review

Introduced with much fanfare in 2001, the Serie V was Montecristo’s extremely successful bid for the then-exploding market for stronger cigars.  Handmade in the Dominican Republic, it features a Dominican binder, a blended Brazilian/ Dominican filler and a wrapper of hard-to-find, oily chocolate-brown Cameroon leaf.

So was this one of the cigars that turned the US into full-flavor country?  I’m not sure, but I do know that it sold out and is now hard to find. It has its devotees, here and on other boards, but let me just say this. Expect a swaggering “full Monte” and you’ll be disappointed -- but expect a slight-flavored, mild cigar for a summer afternoon, and you’ll hit the spot. (Hey, I can’t argue with success, but that doesn’t mean I have to smoke it.)

There's nothing more satisfying that smoking a well-built cigar livid with smooth cocoa flavors, and the Montecristo Serie V is certainly one of them. From the consistent burn, the creamy taste is accompanied by hints of spice that effectively stirred up the smoking proceedings. The thick smoke is also very commendable, attesting to the richness and quality of the stogie. The price may scare off some cigar enthusiasts, but the Montecristo is unique enough to provide a different experience.

This is not the best of Montecristo. We all know that Montecristo #2 is the best so why not smoke the best. I recommend finding a contact who can sell you a MC#2 from Cuba and then you can truly enjoy a great cigar.

This is my second favorite in the Monte Cristo lines. I love the full flavor with a hard core buzz attached to it... great cigar at almost any price

I have always been a fan of Montcristo cigars. Easy draw with a mild flavor and very consistant. A good smoke for the price.
