Padron makes use of Nicaraguan tobacco to produce their top cigars. Therefore, after 30 years of consistently producing their medium to full-bodied smokes, Padron finally released the 1964 Anniversary line. Being one of the rarest cigars in the market, the Padron commits itself to quality, which explains why they produce cigars at limited quantities. Judging from the past statement, you can bet your life that Padron will only put out in the market the best most competent cigar they could ever conceive.

The 1964 Anniversary line is wrapped in maduro leaves and contains tobacco that has been aged for four years prior to its release. As mentioned, everything about the cigar, from its construction down to its burn, is simply flawless. The taste boasts the right amount of chocolate, cinnamon, and spice to produce the finest medium to full-bodied smoke in the market. Really, Padron maintains a standard unmatched by most brand, and the 1964 Anniversary continues the greatness of the brand.

Strong pepper tastes and aroma throughout with wood, vanilla, and huckleberry notes up front. Starts out as a medium bodied smoke but transitions into a full bodied, full flavor smoke as it burns toward the head. Leather, cocoa, and burnt coffee tastes dominate the middle flavors then transition into strong caramel and burnt sugar flavors toward the end. This cigar would pair well with medium grade bourbons, low acidity coffees, burnt caramel glace as a dessert, and bitter chocolate. Though enjoyable overall, it burns a bit hot on the tongue, so it would over power more subtle french vanilla pairings, which it suggests in the beginning. The cigar I had came from the bottom of the box, so it was flat on two sides giving it a nice feel in hand. Nicely complex, but a bit harsh and dry toward the end. This cigar presented a fairly even burn from start to finish with pepper tastes strongly represented. If you have a spiced Mexican chocolate tort on hand, this will go well with it. This is definitely an after dinner smoke that will stand up to a rich dessert. Not bad, but not subtle by any means.
